PRIVATE PRACTICE

If you are going to undertake private practice with a family member or friend, then it is extremely important that you practice the correct procedures.
If mistakes are allowed to creep into your driving then it can eat up more of your paid lesson time to correct these faults.

I would encourage anyone who has never driven before to wait until they have mastered the basics with their instructor before they start private practice. This should ensure that the basic building blocks for producing a safe and competent driver are in place, and that all practice can follow a pre-planned pattern to help the pupil work out any basic faults that they are struggling with.

I am quite willing to invite the supervising driver of any of my pupils out on a lesson. They can sit in the back and I will show them how to spot the most basic faults that are being made by the pupil. I will also give them a sheet to take away which will explain in very basic terms what the examiner is looking for on test; this sheet should then be used on all subsequent private practice. Pupils can also take their manoeuvre sheet with them during their practice sessions and the supervising driver can check that it is followed to the letter.

This will help save the pupil money on lessons because all driving practice will then be structured, and as such should greatly assist the learning process.
